Tutor Code of Conduct

Please refer to our Glossary of Terms for definitions of key terms used in this page.

Elite Scholars is committed to providing a high-quality, respectful, and supportive educational experience for all students. This Tutor Code of Conduct outlines the professional and ethical standards expected of our tutors. By working with Elite Scholars, tutors agree to abide by these principles to ensure the best possible tutoring experience.

1. Professional Conduct

Punctuality: Tutors must be on time for all scheduled sessions. If a delay or cancellation is unavoidable, the tutor must inform the student or guardian as soon as possible.
Preparedness: Tutors should be well-prepared for each session, having reviewed the material and planned appropriate activities or explanations.
Respect: Tutors must treat all students, parents, and guardians with respect and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

2. Ethical Standards

Honesty: Tutors should be honest about their qualifications, expertise, and abilities to teach the subject matter.
Integrity: Tutors must uphold academic integrity by not completing assignments, exams, or any work on behalf of the student. The focus should always be on guiding the student to learn and understand the material independently.
Confidentiality: Tutors must respect the privacy of students and families. Any personal information shared during tutoring sessions should be kept confidential unless disclosure is required by law.

3. Teaching Practices

Adaptability: Tutors should be responsive to the needs and learning styles of each student, using a variety of methods to explain concepts and engage students.
Encouragement: Tutors should foster a positive and supportive learning environment, encouraging students to ask questions, express difficulties, and be active participants in their education.
Constructive Feedback: Tutors should provide clear, constructive, and kind feedback to help students improve and reach their academic goals.

4. Communication

Clear Communication: Tutors should maintain clear and open lines of communication with students and their guardians regarding session progress, scheduling, and any concerns.
Reporting Issues: If a tutor encounters any issues or has concerns about a student’s well-being or academic progress, they should report these to Elite Scholars management immediately.

5. Safety, Boundaries, and Relationships

Appropriate Interactions: Tutors must maintain appropriate boundaries with students, ensuring that all interactions are professional and educational.
Safe Environment: Tutors should ensure that all in-person sessions occur in safe and suitable environments. Online sessions should be conducted using secure, authorized platforms provided or approved by Elite Scholars.
Tutoring Minors: When tutoring minors, including primary school or high school students, tutors must ensure that a parent or guardian is made aware of all ongoing tutoring sessions for the safety of the minor. This includes providing details such as the time, location (for in-person sessions), and platform (for online sessions). Tutors should follow all safety and child protection protocols and maintain a professional and educational focus at all times.
Maintaining Appropriate Boundaries: Tutors are strictly prohibited from forming any inappropriate or intimate relationships with students, especially if the student is a minor. All communication and interaction must remain professional and related to the tutoring service.
Personal Relationships: If a personal or intimate relationship develops between a tutor and a student who is not a minor, it should occur outside tutoring hours and be disclosed to Elite Scholars management to avoid any conflicts of interest or ethical concerns. Tutors are expected to use sound judgment and maintain professional boundaries to ensure the integrity of the tutoring relationship.

6. Continuous Improvement

Professional Development: Tutors are encouraged to engage in continuous professional development and stay updated with teaching methods and subject knowledge.
Feedback Reception: Tutors should be open to feedback from students, parents, and Elite Scholars management to improve their tutoring methods.

7. Compliance with Policies

Company Policies: Tutors must comply with all Elite Scholars policies, including those related to safety, child protection, and data privacy.
Legal Requirements: Tutors must adhere to all applicable laws and regulations, including any specific requirements related to working with minors or vulnerable individuals.

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including termination of the tutoring arrangement.
